Summer greetings from our DP!

Dear Fellow Members
This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
What a glorious week of weather we have just had. At this time of the year when I see the primroses, bluebells, and cherry blossoms it makes me appreciate all the wonders of nature. As you know we live in the country and there are lots of lambs to be seen at present gamboling about in the fields around our house. It is really a joy to watch them.

I hope you were all able to watch out Festival Service, held on 21st March. Thanks to Dean Stephen Forde we were able to have an online service this year, from St Anne’s Cathedral. We were delighted to have our All-Ireland President, June Butler as our preacher on this occasion.

We had a very successful Spring Council recently, via Zoom. Our Chaplain, Archdeacon Stephen organised an online church service before the business meeting, at which Bishop George gave a very inspiring address. He encouraged us to step forward in faith in MU during the challenging circumstances in which we find ourselves. He spoke about the great faith of Queen Esther and the Syro-phoenician woman.

My husband, Bob, and I had a great day out on 26th April, when we went to Portstewart to welcome our All-Ireland President, June as she completed her sixth walk for Mums in May. June has set herself the challenge of walking 21 kilometres in each diocese in Ireland, to raise money for this worthy cause. You can sponsor her at the ‘Just giving’ page on the website, or have yourself sponsored as you complete 21 challenges, be that knitting, baking, swimming or whatever. There is also a ‘Count your blessings’ calendar on the website, and you can thank God daily for a specific blessing by putting money aside.

We are all eagerly anticipating getting our lives back to normal again as we look forward to the easing of more Covid restrictions. By now most of us will have had our second vaccination. It has been lovely to return to church services again, and it will be even better once we are able to sing God’s praise.

It is coming near the end of the year for Mothers’ Union activities, and we are all looking forward to being able to meet together, perhaps in the autumn. Could I encourage you to continue keeping in touch with other members – for some that phone call might be the only contact they have with the outside world.

Wishing you God’s richest blessings,
With my love,

Sally x
