16 Days of Activism and Global Day 2020

The annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Central to our All-Ireland 16 Days outreach this year is the publication of an All-Ireland 16 Days Prayer Diary. This will be ready for distribution by the end of October. Every member will receive a copy and it will also be offered to clergy for parish distribution.

A few other suggestions of how to support the campaign are:

  • On Sunday 6th December invite your Rector to host a 16 Days of Activism element as an integral part of the Sunday morning service and include prayers.
  • Support collections for our diocesan link refuges.

As part of the campaign this year we will be holding our first Global Day (5th December) which is centred around the disturbing figure that “1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced domestic or sexual abuse” and that Mothers’ Union, as a leading women’s organisation, believes this to be unacceptable.
