Good Samaritans’ Service at St Anne’s Cathedral

Together with several Trustees, I attended the Good Samaritans’ Service at St Anne’s Cathedral on Sunday 2 February to receive an award to Connor Diocese MU from the Black Santa’s Sitout towards our Away from it All scheme, which exists to provide funding for short breaks to needy individuals, families or groups experiencing stress, financial hardship, marital breakdown etc.
In the past, grants have been used for breaks at, for example, caravan parks, hire of a cottage in the Mournes, a few days at a hotel in Bangor, and a family day out to Portrush. We have also enabled young people to attend school trips away, funding choristers and their families to take part in choir tours, Summer Madness, Scout and Girl Guide camps.
These breaks are usually referred to us by the clergy or social services. They are funded by MU after an application process and are organised by the applicants or referrers. Funding may be in full or at our discretion.
