Autumn Greetings from our DP!

Dear Fellow Members

Autumn has arrived and you will all have been looking forward to branch meetings starting again. Unfortunately, this year we are still not able to meet as normal. All Ireland Trustees have advised that branch meetings should not resume for the next three months. Hopefully, some sort of meeting might be in order by Christmas.

In the meantime, might I encourage you to keep in touch with each other in whatever way you can, and could I please ask Branch Leaders to pass on news to members who do not have access to the internet.

The Thanksgiving Service has been postponed to Sunday 25th October at 3.30pm in All Saints Parish, Antrim. This service is for Trustees and Executive members only, but it is to be streamed live on the internet. Details of how to access this service will be sent to you nearer the time. We are delighted to report that Bishop George will be joining us for the service as well as our Chaplain, Archdeacon Stephen.

Connor Council scheduled for 17th November has had to be cancelled. However, I hope to record a video update for you on that date.

Members continue to be busy making masks and scrubs and the little Covid knitted hearts. I am happy to be able to report that two letters of thanks for these have been received – one from Antrim Area Hospital, which was sent directly to Mary Sumner House, and one from Belfast Trust. It is good to know that your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

With Christmas just around the corner, could I remind you that now is the time to order your diaries and Christmas cards. Area Chairs have all received the latest catalogue and you can place orders through our Enterprise Contacts.

On the subject of Enterprise Contacts, we will shortly be needing two new volunteers to fill these roles.  The job description is as follows: –

  • Organises sales of MUe in her areas of the diocese
  • Attends diocesan events with a display of goods
  • Encourages branches and areas to have regular Enterprise stalls
  • Holds stock, pays invoices and operates a dedicated bank account on behalf of MUe
  • Draws up a set of accounts of transactions yearly

If you would be interested in taking on this role, please do get in touch with me.

I hope you are enjoying this spell of autumnal weather. It is always lovely to watch the changing colours and to marvel at the beauty of nature.

Lord Jesus, you taught us to love our neighbour, and to care for those in need as if we were caring for you. In this time of anxiety, give us strength to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick, and to assure the isolated of our love. Amen

With my love,

Sally x
