Summer ’22 Greetings from our DP!
Dear Fellow Members
I’m sure you have all enjoyed watching the various events which surrounded the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen. We had a wonderful weekend of celebrations. We were all able to see the trooping of the colour, with the Queen’s appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, the service of thanksgiving in St Paul’s Cathedral and the pageant celebrating 70 glorious years. Perhaps you were able to join in a street party and get together with family and friends.
What a great public servant HM has been, and what a great example of Christian faith she has represented for these seven decades. Even before the coronation, in her first Christmas message in 1952, she said, ‘Pray for me… that God may give me wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises I shall be making, and that I may faithfully serve Him and you, all the days of my life’. We in Mothers’ Union have been blessed to have her as our patron for all this time. May she continue in good health and spirit to lead the nation.
Bob and I had a different Jubilee Celebration as our niece Sarah was married in York Minster. We had a great few days in York, the highlight of which, was the wedding on Saturday. It had been arranged for last year, but due to the Covid pandemic had to be postponed. Fortunately, Sarah’s date had been booked before the Jubilee events were announced, otherwise, the wedding might not have been able to take place. She had to get special permission from the Archbishop of Canterbury for the ceremony which the Acting Dean conducted.
Later this year we will be having our triennial elections, and there are lots of positions which we will need to fill. May I ask you to prayerfully consider those members who could fill these roles. Perhaps you might be willing to take up some position within the diocese – don’t be afraid of the responsibility.
As the days get longer and we are looking forward to better weather, I wish you all a happy and healthy summer. For those of you who will be going away on holiday, I wish you safe travels and refreshment, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Annual Gathering in September.
With my love
Sally x
